Camellias are a popular tree in a Modern formal style garden either as a stand alone tree or as a hedge to provide privacy or line driveways. An evergreen small tree to large shrub from japan with flowers appearing in singles or doubles and colours ranging from white through deep pinks and reds.

Camellias prefer slightly acid, hummus rich well drained soils. They love to be fertilised with a specific camellia and azalea fertiliser and a new mulching in spring to keep plants vigorous and healthy. Pruning of the Camellia should be done once the last flowers have bloomed especially when growing them in a hedge to keep a dense well kept shaped between flowering.

Autumn flowering and glossy dark green foliage make them quite popular as flowering or not make a statement in anyone's garden. As long as your take good care of a young camellia plant as they will need more before they become established and grow a sufficient root system, once they are established camellias are much easier to maintain. Thanks for reading and have fun in the garden.
