Crepe Myrtles are amongst the best flowering tree in the worlds due to there impressive flowering display and the size and shape making it great as a statement piece or as a wall of colour. Crepe myrtles grow well in most parts of Australia and different variety's will do better such as the Indian summer variety which is much more cold tolerant then the standard Crepe Myrtles.

Crepe Myrtles do much better once established and pruned correctly as it establishes it self will make for a well formed tree year round, in fact a lot of Crepe Myrtles are heavily pruned each year which does promote strong growth for new flowers but can actually make for a butchered looking plant and if using as a stand alone plant for their ornamental like looks then letting the Crepe Myrtle grow naturally will make for a great looking tree that will flower just as well as if heavily pruned. Flowers range in colours from mauve, red, white and different shades of pink. The leaves in autumn will turn either yellow, orange or red depending on the variety which can help in identifying the variety. Thanks for reading and have fun in the garden.
